"Bright Lights, Big City: Take Two" by Nikki Youngblood
I really liked the way you would put a quote, then elaborate on it and add in your own experiences. It kept the piece interesting, mixing it up. I didn't really understand the dialogue between Rusty and Shane at the beginning, though. I liked how you started the piece describing Matt's ideas of gamblers: "He imagined that the gamblers would be like addicts..." That whole paragraph is really good. I really feel that interviewing an expert on gambling or at least someone with more gambling experience would bring new life to this piece and your first essay. Juxtaposing that against your own preconceptions and experiences with gambling would be really interesting. Good start, Nikki!
