Games of Cuts and Bruises

"What is a miracle anyway? Is it not in large part a matter of timing, to have bread for the hungry when they need it, or shelter for the homeless when they need it?"

This piece was about getting hurt, both physically and emotionally. The author's (I don't have his name handy at the moment) progression between moments is what impressed me. The piece flowed very well, even though it was obvious that the author was probably not a native speaker of English. Looking back on the experiences that marked him growing up, he is able to see what moments really constituted a miracle. He made it into a school that he felt unprepared for, and eventually even felt like he fit in, despite the years of cuts and bruises that had come before. I really like this way of looking at miracles as being basically good timing; that's really all they are.
