"A Red Spoon for the Nameless" by Burlee Vang
This essay does a great job of repeating images, like blood and the color red or the ideas of femininity, to give the scenes more meaning.  The third-person voice was unique because most essays in this genre are first-person.  It gave a kind of distance that added to the idea of the "nameless" in the title.  I really liked this piece.  I think it's about being stuck and having secrets and how hard that can be, especially when tradition and family goes against who you really are.  Vang says a lot in a little piece. 
Some questions:
1.  How do you know when you've used an image or idea too much?
2.  How can we smoothly incorporate family traditions/ideas into our writing?
